Screwtape Letter 15

Letter 15 was the most interesting to me. The concept of living in the future and not the eternal or present. Satan does seem to get us in this aspect, for we have fear and uncertainty of the future and this is what in the end leads us to stray.
This is part of why I think college students are away from God. We aren't under the supervision of parents and free to make our own choices. Along with this we are busy worrying and planning for our futures. This particularly effects me, as I am a senior and am constantly worrying about the future and what the next step I take will be. I fear and am excited for the future, and do try to not think of it, but then the questions of whats next arise and I'm set back. It is hard to think of God and be mindful of God when looking to the future.

chapter 15:
Satan likes you to lose your focus--be distracted through confusion. You have to face your fears in confidence and assurance that God will take care of it. Screwtape is the devil and tries to get Christians into the extreme because then they will get disappointed and impatient, causing you to abort God's purpose for your life. Focus on the present, continue God's giving, go to Him with every decision and ask for direction. Taking one step at a time, day by day, you will see things start to unfold and the direction will be clear. If you are not sure, then continue to stand until you get an answer. Pray about the future and believe for it while you continue to do in the present. Screwtape actually shows us the opposite extreme of God which allows us to remain open-minded to perspectives around our situation. You can extract the good out of the bad and utilize it. It takes practice to live this way but the more that you are challenged by extremes, the more aware you become to what God is wanting you to do--seize the opportunity. Eternity is automatically secured for you as you continue to obey God.
